This migration test cell is made entirely from PTFE (Teflon) and designed to be microwaved to assess microwave susceptors or other microwaveable packaging. The threaded pipe screws into a tapped base block creating a 3’’ diameter circle (7.07 in²) of exposed print or susceptor. The remaining pipe can hold ~200 mL of simulant, though it is recommended to run experiments with substantially less to avoid boiling over or spilling.
The design is described by Begley and Hollified in the Journal of Food Protection Vol. 53, No. 12, Pages 1062-1066 (December 1990).
